How to Choose Concealer Shades by Skin Tone | Makeup Guide

Choosing the right concealer shade isn't always simple. One of the most common questions I get asked is “How to pick a perfect match.” Let's now examine some tips for finding the perfect concealer shade.

It may be a little challenging to find a concealer that complements your skin tone completely, but Golden Rose is here to assist you in finding the best concealer.

What is skin tone?

Your skin tone is the visible color of the surface of your skin. Depending on how much melanin your skin produces, it may range from very fair to deep.

The visible color of your skin's surface is called your skin tone. Your skin's generation of melanin, or pigment, which can range from very fair to deep, defines it.

What are skin undertones?

Your undertone is the color hue underneath the surface of your skin, commonly identified as warm, cool, and neutral.

Undertones are usually categorized into three groups:

  • Warm: Hints in yellow, peach, or gold.

  • Cool: Hints in pink, red, or blue.

  • Neutral: a mix of cool and warm.

HOW TO FIND YOUR UNDERTONE

You can quickly identify your undertone in a few different ways.  Here are some of our favorites:

Vein Test: Check your wrist's veins in natural light. You likely have a warm undertone if they look greenish. You probably have a cool undertone if they look blue or purple. Your undertone might be neutral if they look in the middle ground or blend in with your skin tone.

White Fabric Test: Hold a sheet of paper or a pure white t-shirt up to your face to perform the white fabric test. You have warm-toned skin if it looks slightly yellow against the white, and cool-toned skin if it appears rosy or pink. You're likely neutral if white suits you without making your skin look washed out.

Silver or gold jewelry test: Hold a piece of jewelry in front of your face. Your undertone is warm if the gold jewelry looks better against your skin, and cool if silver jewelry appears finer. Your undertone is probably neutral if they both look great.

Wrapping It Up!

You need to understand both your skin tone and undertone, and then choose a product that blends seamlessly with them to ensure a flawless look. You can easily shortlist your options for a concealer and avoid shades that look too ashy, orange, or mismatched once you recognize whether your tone is warm, cool, or neutral.

Remember, your concealer’s job is not just covering imperfections but also enhancing your natural complexion and creating an immaculate base. You will be able to select a shade that complements your skin perfectly and boosts your confidence every time you wear it with a little testing and the right guidance.
